Where’s My Coffee?!
“In the swirling haze of a dimension unbound by mortal comprehension, a grotesque maw, slick with drool, yawns hungrily as countless tendrils writhe outward in restless search. The nebulous mists part only enough to reveal the suggestion of form—too vast, too obscene to endure in full. And yet, upon its emergence, a single thought reverberates through the void: ‘Where’s my coffee?!’”
I rarely participate in art prompts, but for my latest acrylic I was inspired by a Heavy Metal Magazine post on Discord (also referenced in this Instagram post). Side note: I finally got approved as a verified artist on the HM Discord! The subject matter for this one wasn’t exactly unfamiliar, but since the prompt “COSMIC ENTITY AWAKENING” fell on October 31st… how could I say no?
As usual, I started the acrylic with a crimson background and started layering on top of that. Initially, I started with a muted orange/brownish creature. The initial painting was a bit too red, so I added greens in the foreground. The focal point (the eyes) weren’t coming out how I wanted, so I ended up adding a spotlight effect. I spent some time adding additional detail in the foreground and ended by adding more “drool, goo, and gunk” to the teeth. When I finished (after my fourth Twitch session), I impressed myself for how colorful this one turned out (probably my most colorful acrylic to date).
Chat was very active while I was painting (welcome to my +26 new followers) & I appreciate all the raids throughout! We talked about a lot of nonsense as expected, covering topics ranging from shingles shots (a common refrain) to Sam Elliott (well loved on our channel, right @waxxidiotic?). And when my viewers heard that paint cap come off, they could almost imagine the possibilities! We have a lively bunch on the stream; sorry I can’t keep up with all the chat sometimes. It does take some brain cycles to plan out the painting occasionally & lay down paint.
I will be submitting this piece to the Heavy Metal Discord on Halloween - can’t wait to see what everyone there thinks! If you haven’t already, be sure to join my regular Tuesday/Thursday Twitch streams at 8:30pm MST for works in progress. And be sure to unlock our hidden macros “!dave” and “!dave2” (no hints, you’re just gonna have to try them out!).
